IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR NURSE ASSISTANTS' WEEK '98
"Nurse Assistants: Specialists in the Art of
Caring" is the official theme for Nurse
Assistants' Week and Career Nurse Assistants' Day 1998.
Here are some ideas and suggestions for additional
projects or events:
1. Ask your Mayor to proclaim Nurse Assistants' Week and
Career Nurse Assistants' Day to the community
2. Plan an Awards and Recognition Ceremony
3. Join with others across the country in a project or
class about the "Art of Caring"
4. Invite your Mayor to participate in the Recognition
event or to "Be A Resident for a Day"
5. Conduct an essay contest to showcase the wisdom and
humor of your nurse assistants
6. Involve your physician and your ombudsman in your
planning efforts - both national organizations endorse
and support Nurse Assistants' Week .
7. Plan a Style Show for new uniforms as well as for
casual and dressy wear
8. Host a Circulation Day. Each person bring items they
do not want and take items they do want - may not take
more than they brought
9. Hold a special dinner for families of Career Nurse
Assistants'
10. Take photos of your honored nurse assistants with the
Mayor or local TV personality
11. Plan a special workshop to discuss future roles of
Career Nurse Assistants
12. Use color coded name tags to indicate number of years
of service (silver - 20 years, gold - 30 years)
13. Host a meeting between nurse assistants and
legislators to discuss issues of caregiving and how
legislators can help nurse assistants to provide better
care
14. Compile information gained in "National
Classroom" sessions and submit to Career Nurse
Assistants' Programs, Inc. for consideration of being
published in a future edition of Tips By Nurse Assistants
for Nurse Assistants
15. Provide scholarships to Nursing Programs or for
advanced certification training as Restorative Nurse
Assistant, Oncology Nurse Assistant, Alzheimer's Behavior
Specialist, or other specialties
16. Include nurse assistants as speakers in a community
education class
17. Submit picture to small local weekly or specialty
newspaper, church publications or to the monthly
publication of your local library
18. Convene a committee of nurse assistants to evaluate
your Nurse Assistants' Week activities and to make
recommendations for next year
19. Award an extra day off with pay for each nurse
assistant who has completed 10 or more years of service
20. Host a "Just for Me Day" with a free back
rub by the physical therapist
