Nursing Assistants ---

Do you serve on a care planning or safety committee?

Do you mentor new nursing assistants?

Do you use skills of organizing, decision making and problems solving when

performing daily tasks of care or working with your peer group?

Do you plan to form a Career NA organization in your area?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then this program is for you.

The new emphasis on leadership roles of nursing assistants is emerging as an important issue to consider in the work setting and also for career advancement and peer support. However, new roles require new skills. The Leadership Program stands out as a program to prepare nursing assistants to work effectively in these new roles.

Credits - The Basic Leadership Program consists of 12 hours of prescribed training for nursing assistants.  The official Leadership Certificate is provided on completion of the required 12 hours and requirements of the program.  Inservice hours apply in some states and a certificate of attendance is provided for your inservice and portfolio needs. .

Gain 8 hours toward your Leadership Certificate at the NA sessions on 10/18-19.  An additional 4 hours can be logged at the NCCNHR sessions (10/18-21) or at home.  Other options for gaining credit include being on a responder panel, helping to draft a testimony or Position Statement for a Congressional Hearing,  meeting with your legislator, governor or mayor, developing strategies for inclusion of NAs in care planning and others.

The National Forum provides an opportunity to showcase nursing assistants accomplishments and innovative programs and includes:

Reports: Nursing assistant groups and organizations will report on Chapter activities, NA Week Activities, local coalition building, how barriers were overcome, and innovative program activity.

Special reports: Many nursing assistants provided testimony, reports, or worked on behalf of NAs with federal and state legislators or public policy officials. Reports include HCFA Abuse and Neglect Committee, HCFA Nutrition and Hydration Committee, Congressional Briefing on Training Needs, Task Force on Male NAs, Task Force on Training and Career Advancement, and others.

National Awards: The Annual "Most Service Years" Award for Nursing Assistants nationwide for 2001, 2002 and 2003 will be presented.   Other awards may be presented.

Scorecard: Those attending complete a scorecard about the extent to which they worked on the Imperatives or "To Do" List for the year.

YOU can contribute to the Forum by discussing these issues in your own group or inservice program, then bring or send your answers and concerns to the Forum email to ([email protected]) or mail to the address listed below.
