Petition for Patient and Resident Rights (see below for full text of petition)
Please forward to all recipents including the State and Federal Legislators

I wanted to share this petition with you, wrote by Melvin Whitley, e-mail: [email protected]
of the NC Chapter of Professional Certified Nursing Assistants Organization...

I would like to add further in this petition, that not only does this do a great injustice to patients and residents, it does as well an injustice to those providing the care; Nursing Assistants and all Directcare Professionals.

We will surely reap the negative attributes as well..once again, forcing out of this field, professional quality caregivers...for these are the one's who are in it for a career and see the benefit of our cause and hard work as being decent and above average wages, health benefits, etc.

To date, I can make more working a factory job, than I can taking care of 11-15 orthopedic patients in a hospital setting, whom need that quality care they deserve.

I have found that CNA's are mostly treated as second rate humans and employees...not much incentive to stay, or go on to further a career in this manner.
Thank you for your support!
Melinda

The National Network of Career Nursing Assistants supports Melvins position on the correlation between short staffing and abuse. If you also support this effort, please let Melvin know but also copy his note sign with your memo of support and send to your State and Federal Legislators - also to your news media. Offer to be a resource for them as well

Best of Luck to Melvin and NC in this important effort.

Petition for Patient and Resident Rights

Whereas: We believe that all patients deserve courteous, professional appropriate care and a quality of life within every healthcare system;

Whereas: Abuse is the willful, infliction of injury, unreasonable confinement, intimidation or punishment with resulting physical harm or mental anguish;

Whereas: Nursing Homes, Hospitals, and Health Care Facilities Administrators are responsible for scheduling the trained nursing assistants staff to provide quality care for Patients and Residents;

Whereas: Realistic staffing levels are paramount. Staffing requirement is needed in protecting patient and resident from injury, confinement, and mental anguish;

Whereas: Career Nursing Assistants are instrumental in promoting and safeguarding the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the patients, and residents;

Now, Therefore Let it be resolved that: The undersigned believe that, Medicaid cuts are creating staffing shortages and understaffing of Nursing Assistants and Direct Care Workers constitutes Patient and Resident Abuse.
