Hi Tina-
This is all too common in our line of work.
We too had this problem, and it got so bad staff
did leave. many felt others were not pulling
their weight....ect...
What we did was mandate meetings with all CNA's
and the DON. At first these meetings were tense
and tearful, but then we focussed on what the
issues were and came up with a check list of what
needed to be done, by each shift. This list was
formed up, and staff were assigned certain things
to get done...it has helped a lot. There is also
a CNA communication book we use- this is used
to note things that need to happen, reasons why
something didn't get done, requests for supplies
and other things. Communication is the key here;
once expectations are set, staff can follow through and we all seem happier.
