Hello my name is Sheila. I have been a CNA for 10 yrs and I can tell you alot of horror stories why places can't keep us! First, its the appreciation there is none! Second, is the pay we dont get enough to take all the abuse and the back breaking we have to endore. Third, is the staff we are always short handed! This will cause burn out! Fourth, there is alot of back stabbing and not enough team work in the nursing homes I have been in. So there is alot of stuff that is negative but there is also positive side to this! It is the smile of a resident who thanks you occasionally for doing things for them. The residents who do appreciate things attend to become you favorite elder that you enjoy taking care of! : I'm beginning to formulate my research project for my master's degree. I am interested in finding out why nursing assistant's leave their positions so frequently. I currently teach an NA course and realize the heavy work load and poor hours, etc. I wonder how initial experiences new NAs experience with older (more experienced) staff members add to job burnout? Let me know what your initial experiences were as NAs and whether those experiences helped you succeed or shot down your excitement.
