I'm really disgusted with the way CNA's are protrayed, those of us who thru lack of education, smarts, and the few who give a damn. CNA's here's the truth, it's a piss ass job. Don't excuse the language. Look at the advantages, keep your CNA and you'll never be without a job, some facility will be crying for you cause the turn over is wild. If your back holds out and if you have the constitution for it, you can work forever in this field. If you're young and can go back to school then you'll come to realize that RN's can easily make 60 + grand a year, and LPN's 40 +. You'll make about 26+ if you hit the job market right and you're in the right area. If you make less than that pack your bags honey you're being screwed. If you take more than 12 residents (patients) than you're doing them a disservice and more importantly (be selfish) yourself a disservice. Get your experience under your belt and look for the cream jobs, you deserve it! I've got friends who are LPN's and RN's and they know our worth. We don't have the muscle for reform but they do. Spoil them with good work performance and they will return it with the leverage they have and we don't. It's not about cute uniforms it's about getting the job done and as was pointed out you're the one that runs to the dieing and tells them that God loved even David in his murderous infidility. Oh heavens if this ever gets back to our senate we'd surely be in deep shit (as if we're not now). Be with the dieing when they're family won't come to see them, love them like "do onto others as you would have them....".
