Yes, that sounds extremely out of whack!!!! Here in Tennessee just in the last 6 months we have had 2 major nursing home fires that have killed 18 i believe so far. Could your facility
evacuate the residents safely with just that many techs, especially on the 2nd and 3rd shifts? Probably not. There is legislation that is SUPPOSED to be getting heard about to try and set a set ratio of techs to residents, but I doubt it will ever happen. So many facilities now are run by corparations that only see one thing when it comes to LTC...DOLLAR SIGNS!!
I work in a 100 bed facility. Our census is down to 72 right now. Dayside has 13 techs (that includes restorative aides as well as techs) and 3 nurses, plus the DON and ADON, plus a treatment nurse and MDS coordinator (an LPN).Alot of staff.
Second shift has 6 techs, 2 nurses.
3rd has 4 techs and 2 nurses.
I feel that we are out of whack too.
BTW, i am one of the 4 night techs, and I handle 18 people 12 of which are PEG tubes and bedridden.
