ABOUT THE NATIONAL TWENTY YEAR CLUB
The "Twenty Year Club" is an honorary member organization for experienced nursing assistants providing direct care for twenty or more years to residents and clients in nursing homes, homes, hospices, or other long-term care services.

Members of the National Twenty Year Club are indeed Career Nursing Assistants, who have dedicated their professional lives to the care of others.

• The Purpose of This Group is:

• To validate the nursing assistants who provide consistency and predictability to the people in their care.

• To provide role models for new or less experienced nursing assistants

• To identify and address training needs and other issues relative to experienced nursing assistants.

• To foster community understanding of the role, responsibility and value of experienced nursing assistants in long-term care services.

• To create collaborative relationships with other groups and organizations for the betterment of care.

• "Most Service Years" Recipients

Established in 1994, this prestigious annual award of the National Twenty Year Club recognizes the nursing assistant who has the most years of service nationwide.

The purpose of the award is to validate this important accomplishment, but it also serves a purpose to provide role models for others and to promote a better understanding of the important work of the nursing assistants.

The Most Service Years Award is presented annually at the National Forum on Nursing Assistants held in Washington DC in November.

The National Twenty Year Club

• 2000 - 1,600 NAs, 345 facilities, 39 states, 35,000 + years of service

• 1999 - 1,300 NAs, 225 facilities, 43 states, 29,000 + years of service

• 1998 - 1005 NAs, 204 facilities, 35 states, 24,876 years of service

• 1997 - 920 NAs, 207 facilities, 36 states, 21,945 years of service

• 1996 - 700+ NAs, 141 facilities, 34 states, 15,000+    years of service

• 1995 - 223 NAs, 65 facilities, 23 states, 4,600 years of service

• Prior to 1994 - The Ohio Ten Year Club recognized by more than 1,500 nursing assistants statewide who had 10 or more years of service.

• ELIGIBILITY

Those who are eligible to enroll include: nursing assistants, resident care assistants, attendants, home care aides or other direct care workers who have completed 20 or more years of service in nursing home, home care, hospice, or other long term care services. Service years do not need to be consecutive and can be from several different long-term care facilities or settings.

• BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE TWENTY YEAR CLUB

An important part of your career growth is belonging to a professional organization. Some of the benefits of membership are:

• Considered for the 30, 40 and 50 year sections of the National Twenty Year Club.

• Eligible for National Awards for Most Service Years and others.

• Twenty Year Club Certificates can be provided for distribution during National Nursing Assistants� Week if enrolled before May 10, 2001.

• Names of members are displayed at the National Forum on Nursing Assistants held in Washington DC (October/November) and may be displayed for other meetings with legislators and public officials.

• Assistance is provided to establish a Twenty Year Club Chapter in your area.

• No cost scholarships for individual nursing assistants

• Member facilities, groups and organizations enroll first 10 applicants at no additional cost.

• A "Directory of Twenty Year Club Members" is available to participating facilities or NAs at a nominal cost.

• RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS INCLUDE:

• Members agree to uphold the principals of this organization as listed in the Career Nursing Assistants Pledge.

• Members select a specific task from a list of "Twenty Year Club Tasks" to be accomplished each year.

• Facilities are encouraged to recognize this accomplishment with award programs, special recognition or planning meetings, and media releases.

• ANNUAL NATIONAL AWARDS

The annual national award for Most Service Years is presented in Washington DC each year (October/November).. Previous recipients of the award are honored at this event, but are not eligible to compete a second time.

Each year, an Honorary Member is selected by the group to recognize those who may not be nursing assistants, but have supported, encourage and been a friend to nursing assistants for twenty or more years. As a member, you are encouraged to nominate a friend of nursing assistants for this award. Nominations are due by September 15, 2001.

• PLAN AHEAD

Three or more nursing assistants in your facility, agency or area can organize a Chapter of the Twenty Year Club. Chapters receive a list of tasks designed to �Showcase NAs� locally and to share with others across the country. You may want to get started on your �Showcase� project as soon as possible. Then plan to display your project or submit a report to the National Forum on Nursing Assistants held each year in Washington DC in October or November.

• HOW TO ENROLL

Eligibility - If you are a nursing assistants who has worked in nursing homes, home care or other long term care settings for 20 or more years, you are eligible to join the National Twenty Year Club.

Individual nursing assistants - Program sponsors provide membership to eligible individual nursing assistants at no cost to the nursing assistant. Eligible nursing assistants can join by applying for a scholarship Member facilities, groups and organizations enroll first 10 applicants at no additional cost. Fee for each additional NA is $10/person.

Non-member facilities, groups and organizations may enroll nursing assistants for the fee of $10.00/person.
