This was posted on the NAGNA message board. I thought I'd pass it along
here too. We should encourage our facilities to participate in this.

Last Wednesday evening in Flint Michigan the Clara Barton Convalescent
Home suffered an
explosion and fire. There were 94 residents and 16 staff members in the
facility at the time. Five
people were killed, 3 residents and 2 staff members: a nursing assistant and
a janitor. This is the
worst accident in long term care history. The loss of life is tragic. We lost
two staff members,
who gave their lives to serve the elderly. This Wednesday we are wanting
everyone to
participate in a "minute of silence" to honor the victims of the explosion. For
more details call
the NAGNA office at 417-623-6049 or e-mail me at [email protected] >

Our facility (which is a new NAGNA member) also received a letter. The
moment of silence will be on Wednesday, November 17 at 12:00 noon. If
your facility doesn't participate please take the moment for yourself. It could
have been any of us.
