Cindy- are you talking about a mentor? If so we
have mentors at my work- they are experiencec
CNA's who have high standards and great work
habits/ethics. They buddy up with new CNA's and
stay with them for months- if needed. We give
the new CNA's at least two weeks of mentoring
time, and the mentors are available for months.
All of the mentors have to be trained, usually
by a nurse who acts as a mentor advisor. There
is a checklist of things the new CNA's need to know and this works pretty well. The mentors are
asked to do an eval of the new CNA, and they sit
down and review this info. The new CNA's also
eval their mentors. It is a good system, not
perfect but good.
Hope this helps.
Patti
