I have been out of town for a week and a half and am not caught up.
In most states, the minimum requirment for inservice is 12 hours and this is in addition to the orientation you have to take in each faciltiy. Within the 12 hours, you must take the required classes each year which include at least infection control, fire safety, resident rights. You also have to work as a NA within a two year period in order to keep your name on the registry - as you change jobs, be sure the facilites do this for you so you do not lose your approval. Again, you may want to discuss this with the DON or your staff dev person.
Off the top of my head, I don't recall the requirments for FL, but I do have a phone # and a person to call. I also have access to your state laws and to the Ombudsman. I will try to contact them on Monday to get the right info for FL.
It is important that you keep your own records of classes you attend - list the date, the title of the class, time and # hours, where it was and the name of the teacher.
