Hi Cheryl:
Well, as many of us will tell you......you have to love what you do as a CNA. Wages are pretty low in Southern CA. I live in San Diego and do Home Health. My husband and I have our own Agency and we start at $15.00 per hour for ourselves.
When I worked in the SNF's they started us at $8.50 per hour as licensed CNA's. Most of the facilities don't pay that well. One cannot work in a SNF or facility unless you are licensed in CA. Again, I say, we have to love what we do to be in this profession. Usually if you work through an Agency or SNF and you want more pay they offer two shifts or more hours. I know many of the ladies I worked with in SNF's worked back to back 8 hr. shifts. There are some Agencies that will work people unlicensed as Companions or Aides. They start at minimum wage.
