I am so pleased that you decided to become a NA. We know the pay is not great but many NAs across the country are working together to help legislators and others to understand that we do need adequate pay for this important job.
Now about being scared - yep! it happens. but when you meet and talk with some of the residents you will feel much better. They will love you and will forgive you for not knowing how to do everything - they will help you - the only thing they will not forgive is abusive language or actions. If you are kind and focus on what you have to do for them, ask their advise and always be gentle, you will be ok.

: Hi everyone...this message board has been a huge help to me in making the decision to become a CNA. I just completed the CNA course and will be taking the state board exam in AL next month. I am allowed to work while waiting on the exam and have just been hired at a nursing home/assisted living facility. I start next week. The pay is not good at all...but i want to gain the experience and then move on at a later date. I am scared to death going into this new career. We had 3 days of clinical in my training and i loved it. I think i have finally found myself. Any words of wisdome out there will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyone's help and support.
