Survey Relating to:

Certified Nurse Aide/CNA, Medical Assistant/MA, Personal Care Provider/PCP, Homemaker, Companion, Registered Nurse/RN, Licensed Practical Nurse/LPN, Psychiatric Licensed Technician/PLT

Purpose:

To provide information about health care organizations available to current and future clients and employees.

Who should respond to this survey?:

Any legal health care organization in the United States. Ex: In Colorado, an organization (like a private home) can take in for residence two or less people, and this home would be legal but would not be licensed. Being licensed requires taking in three or more people who are not related to the home�s owner. But both licensed and unlicensed are legal and can answer this survey. See page 2 for a list of licensed organizations.

Anyone can ask questions, suggest additions, information and/or corrections to this survey and pertinent information by mail (P.O. Box 18271, Denver, CO. 80218-0271), website (www.cna-network.org/network/community/Denver/contact.htm), or in person at our monthly meetings. (ACNA meets for Continuing Education Unit/CEU classes on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding June and December, from 7pm to 9 pm in the cafeteria area of Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, CO.)

The information requested in this survey is about the positions of Companion, Homemaker, Personal Care Provider/PCP, Medical Assistant/MA, Certified Nurse Aide/CNA, Psychiatric Licensed Technician/PLT, Licensed Practical Nurse/LPN, and Registered Nurse/RN.

In Colorado, the only legally defined and tested of these eight groups are the last four - CNA, PLT, LPN, and RN. There is no legal standard of skills/duties/testing for the Companion, Homemaker, PCP and MA. For any questions about this, call the Colorado Board of Nursing - (303) 894-2431, #8.

Note: This survey does not include the position of "CNA with Medication Aide Authority" (which is a CNA with training to give medication in long term care facilities) because the rules and regulations of this position will not be voted on by the Colorado Board of Nursing until their April 26, 2006 meeting, after which further things to develop the position will be done. When such jobs exist, the position can be included in the survey.

How to report complaints:

Anyone (you don�t have to be a doctor, nurse, facility employee, patient, relative, etc.--ANYONE can do this) can report inadequate staffing of any licensed facility to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment - (303) 692-2800, 692-2000. To find out what adequate and inadequate staffing is, tell the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment -I have a question about staffing regulations for (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.)- and you will be connected with the person who has the information about that type of facility. If there is a specific time that staffing is inadequate, such as only on Saturday nights from 7pm to 6am, that specific time can be investigated. Complaints can be anonymous.

We�d like you to tell all these 700+ organizations in the Denver area about this survey so they can answer it. Every health care organization in the United States is invited to answer it.
