Many people have contacted me about what rules and regulations apply to assisted living, board and care and resident care apartment complexes.

For summaries of the rules that apply in each state (if any) and help with contact information to get assistance or full regulatory information, there is a helpful report on the National Center for Assisted Living website. To get it free, go to: http://www.ncal.org/ and click on "Assisted Living State Regulatory Review New for 2000." It is 76 pages in length and you must have Adobe Acrobat to download it (PDF).

Detailed information on nursing home laws is found in "Consumer Guide to Long-term Care" available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com at bn.com and most book stores and book selling websites. For more information on the book, go to:
http://www.wisc.edu/wisconsinpress/books/3075.htm.
