Sorry that you feel you are just a CNA. I cannot guarantee that you will always be treated in a professional manner, but I can guarantee that YOU can always afford to present a professional demeanor. So regardless of what someone else may say to you, YOU have to know that YOU make care happen and are critical to the health care system. There are many more of us who support you in this and seek ways to make the workplace better for NAs and residents as well.
We need to get you involved in doing some creative things to make your workplace better. If you send me your mailing address (privately to email - [email protected]), I will send you a 6 month complementary membership in the National Network of Career Nursing Assistants. This means that you are a member of a National Professional organization for NAs and will be joining with thousands of other NAs across the country to help create a postive voice for NAs.
Also look on this web site for info about the National Twenty Year Club - if you have 20 or more years, let me know. But you also know folks in your faciltiy who have 20+ years. Discuss this with the DON and get us a list - we will send them a certificate and some info about how to get some local publicity for the 20 +. You can be chair for this project in your facilty whether you have 20 years or not.
Also tell your DON that it is not too early to begin plans for National Nursing Assistants Week (June 7-14, 2001) and as a member you will be receiving info about how your facilty can be involved - offer to share wiht her and also to submit her name to get info in the future.

: But I don not think it is fair to CNA'S,the way this thing is handled. If we don't work as a CNA for at least 8hrs(in PA)within a 2yr.peroid we are no longer a CNA. But what if I want or need to take a break for whatever reason,I then have to go back to school and/or retest.This is not the way it is for RN's and LPN's. Just is not fair,Guess I'm only a "CNA"
