Hi! I posted a message on Shari's board but decided to put one here too, because this board seems to have different viewers. My question is about how CNAs feel about lifts and transfers??? I am not a CNA, but have worked in several LTC settings. I commend you for what you do...it is a tough job, physically and emotionally, but as you all know, it can also be very rewarding. Because the physical demands of patient handling is such a big part of your job, I am interested in finding out how you feel about the training you received regarding lifts and transfers...during your school programs and also for example, during orientation at your jobs. The injury rates for CNA's are so high, and I have heard so many moans and groans from CNAs at the end of their shifts. I am asking these questions, because I would like to figure out a way that I might be able to help with specific, practical techniques for patient handling to make your job safer, easier and ultimately more rewarding...so that you can actually do more than just collapse at the end of a shift. You have all probably heard a million times...lift with your legs, protect your back, etc...but I would like to give you much, much more than that. So, I am trying to figure out where and how I might fit in...as a part of CNA training programs, at your facilities, etc. And if anyone is specifically interested in discussing more specific options with me, please feel free to email me directly. I am living in North Carolina right now. I would really appreciate any input that you could give me. I feel very strongly about the importance of your role in caring for the people who need you, and would love to help you to feel physically better and to feel safer and happier in your jobs. Please tell me how and where I could help! Thanks! Jennifer
