Hello to all,
Just to update you and get some of your good ideas. Margaret STNA, Ohio is representing NAs and the National Network of Career Nursing Assistants to a special Committee on Abuse and Neglect in Washington, DC next week. She is the chair of the National Network CNAs Abuse and Neglect Leadership Committee.
Marg has worked in the nursing home for more than 50 years and will be speaking from her own experiences as well as with the combined input of NAs at the National Leadership Conf (11/99) and from groups and indiv NAs across the country.
We feel like we have moved mountains to assure that a NA will present the NA perspective - no one else really shares this unique view so it is the NA responsibility to help committee members and the gov to become more aware of some of the real issues related to this area. It would have been far simpler to send the "requested professional" but our definition of professional includes nursing assistant and theirs did not. It has taken a great deal of negotiation to create a place for NAs on this Federal Committee, and we can be very pleased with the work of William, Martha, Jeni and others who helped to make this possible. Martha will be attending also as Margaret's mentor.
