I just wanted to take a moment and post having read some of
your postings. Boy, I can sure sympathize with many, if not all
your concerns and issues. Hi, my name is Lee and I am new
on this listing. ( was refered by a friend, who is a Nurse).
I have been in Nursing since 1965,( I started at 15) and am Hospital trained, working in
ON/GYN, MED/SURG, Respiratory, ICU,CCU, and ER. Back at that time the
course for Nursing Assistant was 4 months IN class. Then
you were placed on a floor WITH a Nurse and you were her
right hand and "gofer". Upon graduation, you received your
Nursing Asst. cap, and you were on your way. There was NO such
thing as Registered, or Certified...you were an NA. Nothing
more. Gosh, it seems a lifetime ago. Now, I am working
Assisted Living and also part time at home. (I hope to be full
time at home eventually. ) I work per diem shifts at 3 Assisted
Living Communities for the elderly. Here, you assist with meds,
assist with showers, or whatever else they ask. It is not as
as Nursing Home and at my age, I can't physically do the
heavy lifting and so on anymore. My residents are a pleasure
and I love them dearly. I work per diem so I can have my weekends
free and Holidays, and as I said above, I work at home part-time
in a DOT.COM business.
I too have been treated like a second class citizen, verbally
abused by RN's, and find the LPN's I work with MUCH more
agreeable and helpful. (thank you, Nurse Jane G.)I have found over the years that the
RN's that have treated me badly were so book learned, they
lack patient/caregiver skills, and are, for the most part,
jealous that WE CNA's possess it. I have heard Nurses say they
didn't go into Nursing to do patient care, but wanted to
be supervisors, $$$$$$ motivated, of course. You ALL are wonderful.
Know that and carry it with you to your work.
I have also been injured by patients and residents, been
groped under my skirt at work by male patients. when I started,
you did NOT wear pants. (blue pinstrip pinafore and white
blouse, and white cap with blue). So...can sure sympathize.
