You may be exempt from NA training and testing in IL if you have been performing the tasks in the miliary that a NA would perform in a nursing home.
We suggest that you contact the IL State Board for NAs for a ruling. The latest info we have on them is as follows:

Ask them if you are eligible for:
1. Reciprocity or
2. If your work in the military meets their requirments for work as a NA in the past 2 years
Be prepared to provide documentation that shows that you were performing NA related duties. This can be a job description, a note from your supervisor, a transcript or a number of things.
Also be perpared to provide copy of your social security card and your previous NA approval from IL. They may ask for other documentation.
If this does not work then go to a local nursing home and ask to be hired and for them to put you through the training (not cost to you). Keep us posted and good luck.

: I completed the CNA course in january 1995, then joined the army in August 1995. I went into the medical specialist field and laboratory technician field. Do i have to retake the test to work as a CNA in the state of IL?
