: HI Sandy..QMA stands for Qualified Medication Aide. Taking a pharmacology class for a semester allows CNA's here in Indiana to be eligable to take a state exam to get certified for QMA. The position allows you to pass meds and apply topical treatments to patients. (no invasive procedures like IV's or catheters) Alot of places here use them to help Nurses pass meds and somewhat as a role of charge nurse in Nursing homes under the direction of the actual charge nurse on duty. It's always interesting to find out different classifications from state > state. Here in CA....we call QMA's, MA'S or Medical Assts. MA's work primarily in Assisted Living Facilities. They do not have to be CNA's. As I said......interesting.
