: Hi Dawn,
: I agree that the wages are pathetic but rather than thinking of it as a reflection on CNA's I think its a terrible reflection on the value of our elderly and infirm. This country is so youth oriented that our elders are pushed aside as yesterdays old news and we as their caregivers are viewed through the same lenses. But no matter how the public views cna's and the residents we care for...we, the caregivers, know our value and the value of the lives we care for.
: : Hi, I just went through your board and I was shocked at the horrible pay rates for nursing assistants!! I worked as a CNA 14 years ago and at that time the pay rate was $8.32 hr. I've been told that this has gone up to $13.00 hr. in my area (Connecticut). I know how hard your job is and for someone to place a value on you of $5.45 is pathetic!!! The reason I found your site is because I've decided to take the CNA course again we have new laws in CT and you have to be state certified. Our local hospital starts off at $16.00 hr for CNA's. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be able to support my family (newly divorced) on 5.45 per hour. This IMO is a grave injustice to the hard work that goes along with being a CNA! Dawn Kosakowski
