Today was absolutely ridiculous. Our wing is full.34 beds..we have 3 CNA's. Just about everyday they pull one to go with a resident to the Drs'..hospital for tests, etc. You can barely get done with 3 girls, let alone 2! The call bells go off constantly..you've got those picky families that think their loved one deserves more attention..you got your complete care residents..it's too much, and you get no help from the LPN, NONE. And you can complain to the DON and she does nothing but tell you she agrees they should help. We have about 10 feeds..and while you are trying to feed, 4 or 5 call bells will be going off, the LPN will sit at the desk and gab on the phone or decide to go to lunch instead of helping. Most times, we get no afternoon break, we just run constantly. Then management threatens they want all your documentation done and done right...on & on about what they want done, but they have NO clue what its like, or they don't care.
I've been a CNA for over 25 years. I love what I do, but I'm getting fed up with facilities that treat CNA's like they are worthless slaves.
You give respect but get none in return.
