NCCNHR
ANNUAL MEETING
Cancelation
- For the first time in its 26 year history, NCCNHR has canceled its
Annual Meeting scheduled for September 28 - October 3 here in Washington,
DC due to the current national crisis.
We are very sorry for the changes in plans that many of you will have
to make and the inconveniences that you will experience in changing
your plans. Please be sure to call the hotel (phone 703-920-3230)
and cancel your room reservations. NCCNHR will not be charging a registration
cancellation fee. The NCCNHR Board is discussing options in terms
of the annual meeting, NCCNHR elections, etc. so we will keep you
posted.
On a personal note, while I am in total agreement with the decision,
as soon as the decision was made I was very sad for this lost opportunity
- disappointed to not be able to see you next week; disappointed that
you will not be able to meet our newest ombudsmen next week, etc.
Please know that all of us at NCCNHR are thinking of you. We were
heartened to hear that the ombudsmen in New York and their families
are safe; although some did observe the World Trade towers attack.
- The Center Website htttp://www.ltcombudsman.org
has a section on information related to the current national crisis.
If you want to add anything to this, please go to the site and then
just send in your comments or information.
- Today (Wednesday), the NCCNHR computers will be down until our computer
company can look at the system in terms of the newest virus "Nimda"
(admin spelled backwords). It is our understanding that this virus
can be gotten on NT servers by simply searching the web so we want
to check everything out before e-mailing any of you. Fortunately,
the ombudsman and NCCNHR websites are not housed on our servers so
they are not impacted. Even more fortunate, our trusty Sara Hunt continues
to work from home on a non networked system so she can send this to
you today. Please call or fax us if you need anything. 202-332-2275
phone 202-332-2949 fax
- As the NCCNHR Board and staff look at options (having the conference
at a later time, distributing the conference materials, teleconferencing,
etc.), your ideas would be most welcome. Please send them to us by
fax so we are sure to get them! (Carol Scott always did prefer faxes
:)
